Wallpaper will go a step further next season embracing unusual textures like silk and leather finishes, adding new dimensions and design to living space. Ditching the paintbrush for a touch of luxury and elegance, lavish materials will be in real demand as many look for quality and craftsmanship for the home.
Craftsmanship was a key trend for 2010 and will continue to be throughout the coming seasons, as hand weaved and hand screen-printed wallcoverings spawn a design movement. Consumers are choosing to invest in high quality interiors that boast handcrafted elements, as confidence is restored and interiors turn to feelings of opulence and luxury.
Bamboo or sisal covered walls create design depth with their organic and unrefined surfaces, evoking memories of the natural world. For many the eco-credentials of these wallcoverings are very attractive as consumer conscientiousness grows and the use of renewable materials in the home is becoming paramount.
Textured wallcoverings work well in every room of the home. For instant impact, the Kona pineapple design works well as a fun stand out feature in a hallway, making a real impact with bold pattern and refreshing tones, for a mesmerizing and inviting look.
Collections that combine great design with naturally sourced exotic textures and vibrant hand screen-printed patterns are perfect for any feature walls or living space. There are a lot of subtle styles available with a shimmer of metallic woven through adding a beautiful sparkle form different angles without being too obvious. The added texture can add a sense of hotel chic to a bedroom as more and more hotels use wallcoverings in strong colours and materials. Team bamboo or jute coverings with a curtain fabric such as hessian to create a rich layered feel that is interesting yet relaxing, as the materials sit beautifully together to create the look and feel of a space inspired by nature.
A real plus to these materials is the longevity factor; they will still look amazingly fresh and appealing in years to come.
