Hemel Hempstead communications company Kcom has contracted Adex Interiors, the established commercial interior fit-out company, to carry out a major internal refurbishment of its premises in Mark Road.

The phased project, which is scheduled to last for 42 weeks, involves a complete refit of the company’s headquarters office building totalling 1,924 sq ft. Adex are now on the eight and final phase of the project which is on schedule.  

The refurbishment carries through the company’s strong corporate colours to the walls and furniture. Client meeting areas, boardrooms and training suites were over-clad and new ceilings installed to drastically improve sound qualities. New floorings were fitted to all areas. 

Staff breakout areas were completely redesigned and feature soft curved seating again in vibrant corporate colour schemes to offer a stimulating and very comfortable area for staff to relax and socialise with colleagues.

Kcom has seen some major developments and expansion over the years. However it was a different story back in December 2005. They and many companies in the surrounding industrial areas were headline news following the explosion at the Buncefield Depot oil refinery which resulted in Europe’s biggest peacetime fire. The ensuing chaos affected Kcom severely with their premises located close to the blast and housing 350 employees in a major network operations centre. The fire, which took four days to extinguish, caused significant damage to the building and its networks.

“Being local to the area we have been involved in several projects over the years following the explosion”, commented John Latimer, MD at Adex. “We are also based on Mark Road and are well known to a lot of the businesses in the area. The Kcom refurbishment is typical of the sort of projects we have worked on and are well geared to handle this type of contract. During the works, the company had to retain full working capacity; any disruption to their business would not be acceptable. This has been an intricate, multi-phased project and I am very pleased with my team who have kept the scheme on schedule.”
